WE CAN HELP! IT'S ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND PROTECTION!
WE CAN HELP YOU SAVE SEED! COME IN AND TALK TO US SOON, SO YOU CAN BEGIN TO REALLY ENJOY BIRD FEEDING....... AND NOT! SQUIRREL FEEDING.
If you are using a pole to hang or mount your feeder, the pole must be tall enough so when the feeder is hung, the bottom is at least 5-1/2 ft. from the ground. A basic pole meant to hang plants will not work.
There must be a baffle on the pole, so the squirrel cannot climb the pole and lunge to the feeder. Baffles for poles are typically a long, cylinder type item. It must be long enough to truly deter the squirrel.
The pole must be at least 8 ft. from any surface a squirrel can jump from -- such as a fence, stone wall, roof of house, etc.
If you plan to hang your feeder from a tree branch, it must hang 8 ft. from the trunk of the tree, and the bottom of the feeder must be at least 5-1/2 ft. from the ground. You must protect the feeder from above with a dome baffle-- not like the pole baffle, but a baffle meant to protect hanging feeders.
If you follow these instructions, you will have an enjoyable, critter-free feeding set-up.
At Wild Birds Unlimited, we have our patented APS pole system and all other accessories needed to critter-protect your feeder set-up. And, if none of the situations listed above suit your yard, we also have a selection of feeders that shut-down when a squirrel tries to get seed.
